How Does It Work?
The Power Plate Pulse Massage Gun delivers a powerful set of vibrations to your muscles either pre or post-workout to aid your warm-up before exercise or enhance your cool-down and recovery after intense exercise.
As it’s a portable, handheld device with a pistol grip it’s easy to use and you can apply it to just about any muscle group. With four levels of intensity it offers both moderate intensity – Level 1 (around 1300 vibrations per minute) – perfect for waking up and warming up tired muscles – and an increased intensity up to Level 4 (3300 vibrations per minute) which I find perfect for post-workout recovery to relax and loosen up my muscles and improve blood flow.
Small Flat and Large Flat attachments are great for targeting large muscle groups such as your legs and back.
Fork and Thumb attachments simulate the kind of massage you might get from a masseuse – with smaller surface areas they really get to grips with knots and pain.
Small Ball and Large Ball attachments are useful for all-over treatment.
There are also two global adapters included which is really convenient if you want to take it on your travels abroad.
Another good feature is that the On/Off button is located away from the intensity level button, at the bottom of the gun, which I find really handy as it helps prevent turning the power off while reaching for the intensity level button mid-massage!
Considering this is a powerful bit of kit I think the battery life is pretty good. Although it depends on the level of intensity you use, it’s possible to get between 4-5 hours battery life on Level 1, and up to three hours on the highest level. I tend to use the gun on Level 3 for around twenty minutes a day, five days a week, and I regularly go a week without needing to charge it. I also like that there’s a power indicator which helps you judge when you need to put in on charge and prevents you running out of power halfway through your massage session.
So, Does It Work? My Thoughts
Although I’d always considered massage machines as a bit gimmicky, it was only after trying out a friend’s massage gun (the Shavron Muscle Massage Gun) and hearing his claims of how well it worked for him that I began to change my mind and later decided to invest in one.
One thing that really stands-out is how quiet the Power Plate Pulse is, especially compared to other models, in fact I believe it’s one of the quietest on the market. Now if you’re not bothered about noise or annoying other people then this may not be a concern, but I think the louder the massage gun the less enjoyable the experience, especially with a tool that’s designed to relax you as well as stimulate rest and recovery. And it doesn’t come at the expense of power either with an impressive 3300 vibrations per minute at the top level.
The Power Plate Pulse really works best for me as a post-workout recovery tool. I tend to suffer from DOMS a fair bit as I like to switch up my routines regularly and I go really hard at the gym. I have to say I noticed a significant improvement in my recovery within the first week which I timed with changing up my routine. Although it didn’t completely illuminate muscle soreness, it was much improved, especially in my calves and chest which is where I tend to suffer from it most. I also found it a great way to relax and calm down afterwards too – in fact it leaves me in such a state of calm if I use it after an evening session that I could easily fall asleep straight after (and have once or twice ;-))
I also like the fact that it’s easy to operate and has a comfortable grip which, although perhaps not as ergonomic as some other models, doesn’t affect how easy it is to use or apply to different areas of my body.
Pros / Cons
- One of the quietest models available
- Good range of attachments
- Decent range of intensity settings
- Lightweight and easy to use
- Very good battery life
- There are cheaper models
- Not the most ergonomic of grips
My Final Verdict
The Power Plate Pulse Massage Gun, although fairly costly, is well-worth the investment. Not only are you getting a great quality massage gun from a reputable supplier who’s been in the business for over two decades, you’re investing in proven technology that can do wonders for both pre and post-workout warm-up and recovery. The battery life is great meaning minimal charging with moderate use, even at the highest intensity level, and it’s easy and comfortable to use anywhere on your body. Due to its portable and lightweight construction, it’s easy enough to carry around or take away with you. And because it’s so quiet you won’t need to worry about sounding like your undertaking home renovations every time you use it.
Despite its price tag you won’t find many other models of the same quality at this price and it’s on offer from the Best Gym Equipment website at 40% off at the moment, so now’s your time!
If you’re looking for all the benefits of a massage gun without the noise then the Power Plate Pulse should be your choice.
